Join us for fun, informal discussions on a wide variety of books.
Meetings are held the first Tuesday of each month from 10:00-12:00.
At the beginning of each meeting we discuss books that the attendees have
recently read. Then the reviewer talks about the author of the selected book
and leads a discussion of the book.
These are the selections for the coming months.

March 6: "Bel Canto" by Ann Patchett

April 3: "The Sun Also Rises" by Ernest Hemingway

We welcome new members!

February 22, 2012, 6:30 p.m.
"People of the Book" by Geraldine Brooks
Summary: In 1996, Hanna Heath, a young Australian book conservator is called to analyze the famed Sarajevo Haggadah, a priceless six-hundred-year-old Jewish prayer book that has been salvaged from a destroyed Bosnian library. When Hanna discovers a series of artifacts in the centuries' old book, she unwittingly exposes an international cover-up.

March 28, 2012, 6:30 p.m.
"A Visit from the Goon Squad" by Jennifer Egan
Summary: Bennie Salazar, an aging former punk rocker and record executive, and Sasha, the passionate, troubled young woman he employs confront their pasts in this powerful story about how rebellion ages, influence corrupts, habits turn to addictions, lifelong friendships fluctuate and turn, and how art and music have the power to redeem.
This book won the 2010 National Book Critics Circle Award for Fiction, and the 2011 Pulitzer Prize for Fiction. It is being adapted by HBO into a television series.

May 16, 2012, 6:00 p.m. (with food)
"Take Big Bites" by LInda Ellerbee
Summary: TV newswoman LInda Ellerbee takes us on a memoir of travel, food, and personal (mis)adventure that brims with warmth, wit, uncommon honesty, inspired storytelling... and a few recipes as well. While weaving interesting yarns about visits to such places as the Appalachian Trail, Bolivia and VietNam, Ellerbee makes both humorous and poignant observations about ethnic food; the tasks of trying to age gracefully; her relationships with friends and family; and the motley strangers she's met in her travels.
